Benefits of Conflict Resolution for Businesses
I have worked in many organisations, and what I often find is that people get to their roles in an organisation because they are amazing at what they do, are experts in their field, or have been in the organisation for a long period time and have worked their way up the ‘corporate ladder’.
And let me be clear, there is nothing wrong with that! It just does not mean that people in a leadership or managerial role are automatically able to communicate effectively and able to deal with conflict in the workplace in an effective manner.
It is not surprising that a lot of people are not confident or as effective as they could be at managing conflict in the workplace. Conflict resolution training is not the kind of training that is standard in every workplace. Conflict is not something that a lot of people like to talk about or deal with. I am telling you that conflict can very positive for the organisation if the conflict is managed well. It will make a difference to your organisation when you have people inhouse that are trained and able to deal with conflict well.
Some statistics tell us that managers are spending up to 20% of their time each week on managing conflict. On a 40 hour work week that is 8 hours each week! It makes sense to get skilled at dealing with a task that you are faced with for approximately 8 hours a week.
When people in the organisation gain knowledge and become skilled in conflict resolution, they reduce the amount of time spent on conflict each week as they catch conflict early, they don’t shy away from it, and they have the tools to deal with it.
On top of the productivity gained, as an employer you have a duty of care to prevent discrimination, harassment or bullying from occurring in the workplace. If you don’t provide a safe work environment, there is the possibility of an employee contacting the Fair Work Commission and lodging a bullying claim, or for legal proceedings to be instigated. This will cost the business a lot of time and money, and it’s an awful experience to go through for everyone involved. You can prevent bullying altogether, or at the least minimize it, in the workplace if you have people in-house that are able to deal with workplace conflict early and effectively.
I have created a program called Conflict Resolution Fundamentals and it teaches the fundamentals of conflict resolution. This course gives participants the skills to deal with conflict in a more effective way and to become more confident dealing with conflict.
If you already have conflict resolution skills or you have completed the Conflict Resolution Fundamentals program and you want to continue to enhance and build on your skills and you want to expand in other areas have a look at the other training programs on offer:

Who is Life Mediation’s training for?
The training I provide is useful for managers, HR staff or people who are in a role that requires them to deal with conflict all day, such as staff in a complaints department or customer service role who haven’t had specific conflict resolution training.
I provide interactive engaging training where people learn invaluable skills and have some fun doing it! If we have enough time we will do role-plays to enhance your learning as there is a big difference to knowing something and doing something.
Can you imagine if your staff were upskilled and had the ability to deal with conflict more effectively for themselves, know how to be effective at having difficult conversations – but were also able to facilitate a conflict resolution process between other staff members? It would make a huge difference to the productive and well-being of everyone in your business!
